Just asking in case we may be able to save you some money. Why not just plug that 30" display into your MacBook Pro.and use an external keyboard? On the other hand (if you don't really need the extra power of the 27" iMac).and if you sometimes prefer working on a desktop setup. a common way of upgrading a Mac mini or laptop for video editing.

Since financially this is a terrific deal.I say go for it!īy the way.instead of paying the full $1999 price for a new 27" iMac i5.get this refurbished one for $1699: The 30" cinema display has a HORRIBLY outdated response time of 16 milliseconds.which is absolutely not the best for video use or gaming.

Plus the display technology in the 27" iMac is MUCH more modern. The CPU will be faster than the Mac-Mini, and the 27" iMac will have MUCH better video hardware. If you have a $1600 offer for your 3 month-old Mac-Mini & 30" display.and you're looking to get a 27" iMac i5.then it would seem that this will be a relatively painless transaction financially.since $1600 will almost completely pay for the 27" iMac! That 30" display is pretty darn awesome.but the resolution of that 27" iMac display is pretty awesome as well.and almost the same resolution as the 30" display. If it slows me down I may change my mind.I can certainly understand if you're having trouble deciding to do or not do this deal.
And if it just works it just works, can’t really argue with that. Or at least that’s how I’m convincing myself that I’m happy with the money saved.
The 8gb models are on sale so cheap right now, you can pick one up at Costco and then when you finally reach that point that you think it’s not enough for you, trade it in to Apple and buy the next big thing If you don’t look at activity monitor you won’t even notice the difference. Memory pressure was yellow, there were a few gigs of swap, but Logic never stopped playing and the fcp export didn’t even take much longer than normal. After playing with an 8gb m1 for a while and stress testing it, I feel you can do a LOT more with 8gb on m1 than people think.įor example I loaded up a Logic project that was 9.5 gb ram on its own according to activity monitor (remember this is 8gb ram total machine) let it play on a loop, opened 20 YouTube tabs in safari, and exported a 40gb Final Cut Pro project at the same time.
